The Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim, Mr David McCorkell, today attended a parade and Service of Dedication for the UDR, in the Ulster Defence Regiment Memorial Gardens in Larne, which included the unveiling of a new memorial to the UDR.
The Ulster Defence Regiment merged with the Royal Irish Rangers in 1992 to create the Royal Irish Regiment. The UDR was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross (CGC), by Her Majesty The Queen, in 2006 in recognition of their contribution during the Troubles. The Lord-Lieutenant was joined by his Lord-Lieutenant Cadet, Cadet Company Sergeant Major Ciara McKay of 1st (NI) Bn ACF.
